Yoga (especially traditional yoga) is at its heart meditation - yoga is stilling of the fluctuations of the mind, in order to reveal our true nature but how to do this? The Yoga sutras gives a detailed guide to this including understanding these fluctuations and techniques for understanding them and reducing them over time.

Abinyvesha on Halloween (and Diwali the festival of lights) conquering the fear of death. Abinyvesha is one of the barriers (kleshas) to understanding our true everlasting nature. The yoga philosophy teaches us we are not the body, mind, roles, names or forms.. we have these but these are all changeable - so who are we? The age old question we all want to know.. Abinyvesha is the deep exploration of one’s self and the quest for true understanding of life and the way we want to show up for our life and try to stop sweating the small stuff. In yoga philosophy we work to conquer the fear (not easy) as dying of the body is said to be merely a ‘changing of clothes’ (The Bhaghavad Gita) and the Atman (soul is the nearest easily understandable translation) never was born nor dies but moves between planes (Lokas) and into different names and forms (sentient beings) to continue our journey of learning and growing until we become eventually enlightened. #Abinyvesha #SelfDiscovery #Mindfulness #InnerGrowth #haloween #diwali

The first of the yoga sutras. Are you really ready? Now?

A day to celebrate this transformational gift from India to the world. Here I explain a key concept as to ‘what is yoga?’ Yoga is coming to KNOW that you are already perfect. There is nothing to do.. but perhaps a few things to un-do.. to polish off our mirror so we can see ourselves and our own divine, powerful, joyous nature clearly.
 The practices and guidance are merely way to start polishing off the mirror of life (the smudges are things like our association with the body, the thoughts, emotions, roles) which then helps us see ourself. Life has added the smudges. We CAN reveal our light… Sending much love and massive gratitude for the yoga practice. I can honestly say it’s transformed my life, and that of many others who have come to mine or other yoga classes over the years.

This short overview covers the 5 obstacles or Kleshas (colourings) which are barriers to 'yoga' or stilling the fluctuations of the mind. Avidya - is the one that permeates all the way through the others. and is not perceiving things correctly , so not recognising that we are the soul, the purusha and connected to higher consciousness Asmita- Egoism (false identification with the body, possession or status) Ragas - preference for things you like Dvesas - avoidance of things you dislike Abhinivesa - Fear of loss (eg health, death, people, things)

The mind is prone to negativity. We have the power to change it up!
